So here's some closing moments of the last of our days before the AUVSI competition. Trying to increase the speed of the IMU gimbal system, making modifications to wiring and structure of the airframe, and watching Shuvo scratching his brains out coding the target detection programs. The lab is a mess and we had to clean it all up of course!
Followed by images of after the last flight of the Sig Kadet Ver. 2 after the crash.
The idea was tossed around that we should have some kind of gathering of words and ideas for AUVSI so I uploaded the pictures I had so far and put this blog together. UVS was also a concept that floated around which represented the gathering of different engineering disciplines at Cal Poly whether it be forming a team for competitions, student clubs, or other academic projects.
AUVSI (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International) is a the largest organization for unmanned systems community which includes interests in UAVs and UGVs. Cal Poly Pomona has entered in 2010's AUVSI Student Unmanned Systems competition which takes place in June.
Mission: Develop an aerial system capable of identifying ground targets during autonomous flight.
These photos are from Prado Air Field where we were checking all the connections to the Piccolo autopilot on the Sig Kadet, and also doing some payload weight testing.
After personally scouting different engineering and computer science departments I formed my team and competed in our first AUVSI competition. Here is a touching video of our first autonomous flight.
